STM World Premiere: Christina Aguilera - Not Myself Tonight (Full Song)

On Saturday, STM gave you the snippet to Christina Aguilera's brand new single, "Not Myself Tonight". Today, we finally get to hear the song in full, courtesy of her official website, christinaaguilera.com! Checkout the full song after the jump.

In the song, Aguilera sings "...If you really knew me you'd know it's not the norm / Cause I'm doing things that I normally won't do / the old me's gone I feel brand new". True enough coz this time, Aguilera dropped her usual "tamed" lyrics and now sings about dancing, kissing boys and girls (Katy Perry?), not to forget the occasional use of the F-word! Well, it's honestly a good listen. I actually like the song. Though this kind of music isn't really something "new" and original. This may be "new" to Aguilera but we've already heard this electro-pop kind of sound from Britney Spears and Lady GaGa. You can actually hear GaGa's trademark beats in the song's background and of course, the lyrics is something Spears is known for - dancing, boys and just being nasty.

STM World Premiere: Justin Bieber - Never Let You Go

Here we have the video for Justin Bieber's second single off "My World 2.0" entitled "Never Let You Go". I actually LOVE this song. Something I honestly think Bieber should be singing more of. This is one of the best tracks off "2.0", as I mentioned on the album review i did for "My World 2.0".

The video was shot by director Colin Tilley while Bieber was at the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. Actress Paige Hurd portrays Bieber's love interest in the video.

La Vida Loca de Ricky Martin

So after 48 years (well, that's an exaggeration), Hot Latino idol and "Livin' La Vida Loca" star, Ricky Martin finally came out to the world about being gay. The singer tweeted a link to his coming out announcement yesterday, saying: "my life- my vida: http://bit.ly/rmlife". Below is Ricky's official statement through his website, www.rickymartinmusic.com:

Me siento libre!

NO MAS!

ENGLISH VERSION

A few months ago I decided to write my memoirs, a project I knew was going to bring me closer to an amazing turning point in my life. From the moment I wrote the first phrase I was sure the book was the tool that was going to help me free myself from things I was carrying within me for a long time. Things that  were too heavy for me to keep inside. Writing this account of my life, I got very close to my truth. And this is something worth celebrating.

For many years, there has been only one place where I am in touch with my emotions fearlessly and that's the stage. Being on stage fills my soul in many ways, almost completely. It's my vice.  The music, the lights and the roar of the audience are elements that make me feel capable of anything. This rush of adrenaline is incredibly addictive.  I don't ever want to stop feeling these emotions. But it is serenity that brings me to where I'm at right now. An amazing emotional place of comprehension, reflection and enlightenment. At this moment I'm feeling the same freedom I usually feel only on stage, without a doubt, I need to share.

Many people told me: "Ricky it's not important", "it's not worth it", "all the years you've worked and everything you've built will collapse", "many people in the world are not ready to accept your truth, your reality, your nature". Because all this advice came from people who I love dearly, I decided to move on with my life not sharing with the world my entire truth.  Allowing myself to be seduced by fear and insecurity became a self-fulfilling prophecy of sabotage. Today I take full responsibility for my decisions and my actions.

If someone asked me today, "Ricky, what are you afraid of?" I would answer "the blood that runs through the streets of countries at war...child slavery, terrorism...the cynicism of some people in positions of power, the misinterpretation of faith." But fear of my truth? Not at all!  On the contrary, It fills me with strength and courage. This is just what I need especially now that I am the father of two beautiful boys that are so full of light and who with their outlook teach me new things every day. To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids where born with. Enough is enough. This has to change. This was not supposed to happen 5 or 10 years ago, it is supposed to happen now. Today is my day, this is my time, and this is my moment.

These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn't even know existed.

What will happen from now on? It doesn't matter. I can only focus on what's happening to me in this moment. The word "happiness" takes on a new meaning for me as of today. It has been a very intense process. Every word that I write in this letter is born out of love, acceptance, detachment and real contentment. Writing this is a solid step towards my inner peace and vital part of my evolution.

I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am.

Christina Aguilera Album News

("Bionic" album cover)

PRESS RELEASE: With 30 million albums sold worldwide and the prestigious honor of being the only artist under the age of 30 included in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 100 greatest singers of all time, 5 time Grammy Award winner Christina Aguilera has already achieved an unprecedented level of success. Aguilera's been hard at work in the studio for the past year and is pleased to announce the release of her highly anticipated 4th studio album Bionic (RCA Records) this summer. The first single from "Bionic" is the fiercely energetic anthem "Not Myself Tonight", produced by Polow Da Don. The song will premiere on ChristinaAguilera.com at 6pm EDT on 3/30, impacts radio on 4/5 and will be available on iTunes on 4/13.

Bionic features songs co-written by Aguilera along with her much buzzed about collaborations including Sia, Tricky Stewart, Polow Da Don, Le Tigre, Hill & Switch, and Ladytron among others. Aguilera notes, "Working on this album with so many talented artists and producers that I admire was really an amazing experience. The artists I chose to work with added so many unique sonic layers to Bionic. My intention was to step into their world and what they do combined with my own vision and sound. The results were magic." The album also features a ballad produced and written by Linda Perry titled "Lift Me Up". The title Bionic reflects Aguilera's ability to take her range to new levels and use her voice in various ways never heard before.

Aguilera describes the album as a unique mix of many genres and styles of music, "I was able to explore and create a fresh, sexy feel using both electronic and organic elements with subject matter ranging from playful to introspective. I am so excited for my fans to hear the new sound. It is something I don't think anyone will expect." In addition to completing the album which was all recorded from her home studio after the birth of her first son, Christina also completed production on her first film, "Burlesque." The film, which co-stars Cher, Stanley Tucci, and Kristen Bell will be released by ScreenGems this fall.

Aguilera's "Bionic" is set to be released worldwide on June 8, 2010. The single cover for "Not Myself Tonight" was released last Wednesday, March 24. The lyrics to the song was released a day after, on March 25th. Today, the snippet of the song was finally released via Aguilera's official website. The concert, entitled "Changing Lives: Timbaland Shock Value II Tour" will also feature performances by international acts JoJo and Justin Timberlake. So yesterday (March 24), Justin Timberlake already arrived in Manila via PAL flight PR 103 from Los Angeles, California and as expected, there was chaos! JoJo also arrived yesterday at around 8:30 a.m. (See video after the jump).

No videos yet of Mr. Timberlake's arrival but below are pictures of him at the airport:

Dear Ke$ha

I’ve been reading/hearing about this issue for weeks now but I refused to give my comments on this until now. Reason behind is, I’m waiting for Ke$ha to speak up and defend herself. See, I actually like her music, so the first time I’ve read about this, I refused to believe it. OK, so what am I actually talking about, you might say? Well early this month, pop starlet Ke$ha apparently, made some questionable comments about Britney Spears (yes, the grand dame of pop music) during an interview with Scotland’s Daily Record about Spears’ tendency to lip-sync at concerts: “I think that’s bulls***. I don’t think that’s fair at all for people who are going to see the show. I think if you are going to be a singer, you should sing. If you are going to be a dancer, you should dance. If you are going to do a combination of the two, you should make it very clear when you are singing and very clear when you are dancing. I would never do that to my fans. No offense to her specifically, but people have asked me before to mime. I have been up at three in the morning for a television show with jet lag but I refuse to mime. It’s treating people as if they are too stupid to realize you are not actually singing. Sometimes it is hard to sing and dance at the same time but I would rather be off and be real and genuine about it to my fans. I don’t want to treat my fans like they are stupid. That is my take on my fans and life in general. My whole record is super-honest. I am really honest. When I am singing I may sound s*** sometimes but at least you’ll know I’m singing,” she said.

And this wasn’t the only time Ke$ha came under fire for badmouthing Britney — just last week, a demo from Ke$ha entitled “Styrofoam” leaked online and Britney fans are none too pleased about its lyrics: “In ten years, Britney Spears…Britney who?” Apparently, Ke$ha recorded the song when was 15, before she became a pop star, she explained during a recent guest appearance on Australia’s version of So You Think You Can Dance (See the video embedded below).

So, to end this all up, I would just like to say that I was convinced with what I saw in that video. As a Britney fan, that‘s the only thing I was waiting for Ke$ha to do and I accept her explanation. Hopefully, this would be the last time Ke$ha would talk sh*t about Britney though. I love Ke$ha’s music and I do have high respect her. At the end of the day though, I’m still a Britney fan, first and foremost. Ke$ha, if you wanna be respected, then learn to respect other people as well. To quote lines from your song, “Zip your lips like a padlock” and “Don’t be a little b*tch with your chit chat.” Stop the “Blah Blah Blah” and just focus on your own career! Britney Spears isn’t just a nobody in the music industry. And I do believe, she deserves our respect for everything she’s achieved through the years as the only princess of pop music. To quote an Entertainment Weekly article: “…this lady wrote the book on pop stardom — how to make a hit, create a scandal, hit rock bottom, and orchestrate a successful comeback.”

STM Album Review: Justin Bieber - My World 2.0

  TRACKLIST
1. Baby (Featuring Ludacris)
2. Somebody To Love
3. Stuck In The Moment
4. U Smile
5. Runaway Love
6. Never Let You Go
7. Overboard (Featuring Jessica Jarrell)
8. Eenie Meenie (Featuring Sean Kingston)
9. Up
10.That Should Be Me

It actually took a few listens before I started to like the songs on this album. I like it  as a whole but I'm not hooked, to be completely honest. Too bad coz I was too excited for this album. Comparing 'My World 2.0' to it's predecessor "My World - EP', I would say that the first one is a better listen. 'My World - EP' contains more radio-friendly songs than '2.0'. I guess Bieber's album production team tried too hard to make him sound "mature" enough on this effort so they decided to included less of the "poppy" songs, in the end the album didn't turn out to be as solid as Bieber's previous effort. How I wish Bieber just stuck to the Pop-RNB formula of 'One Time', 'One Less Lonely Girl' and 'Baby' coz a lot of his fans are still enjoying that kind of sound from him. Nonetheless, '2.0' contains a number of good songs including the first single 'Baby', 'Never Let You Go' and the Benny Blanco-produced 'Eenie Meenie' which features Sean Kingston. Plus the fact that Bieber's voice sounds fantastic on this one. Maybe that's where 'My World 2.0' is better compared 'My World - EP'.

REPEAT: Baby (featuring Ludacris), Never Let You Go, Eenie Meenie
SKIP: That Should Be Me, U Smile

Arnel Pineda’s version of RP anthem criticized

The National Historical Institute said Sunday it was filing a complaint against Journey lead singer Arnel Pineda for changing the tone and tempo of the Philippine national anthem when he sang it before the Pacquiao-Clottey bout in Texas.

Pineda sang "Lupang Hinirang" (Beloved Land) during Pacquiao’s successful bout against Joshua Clottey of Ghana on Saturday (Sunday in Manila), his powerful, high-pitched voice filling the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

But Teddy Atienza, chief of the Heraldry Section of the NHI, was not pleased. A "24 Oras" report quoted him as saying that they would file a complaint against Pineda before the Department of Justice for his "wrong" version of the national anthem.

The NHI is the government body tasked to ensure respect for the national anthem, Philippine flag and other national symbols.

Under Section 37 of Republic Act 8491 or the Flag and Heraldic Code, the national anthem must be sung in accordance with the original musical arrangement of composer Julian Felipe, who gave it a marching tempo. Violators may be fined P5,000 to P20,000 or jailed for a year.

Pineda, for his part, defended his version, saying he had sung it with all his heart. He said he would ask his lawyer to deal with the complaint once it is filed.

Pineda, who rose to fame in 2007 when members of the US-based band discovered him on YouTube, belted out before a crowd of almost 51,000 boxing fans his somewhat slow rendition of "Lupang Hinirang."

The singer, wearing a brown long-sleeved polo with native prints, started well in the song but faltered when he tried to raise the pitch — a practice frowned upon by NHI — of the final part of the anthem. The crowd cheered nonetheless.

Cheers and jeers

"What happened to your voice and to the anthem?" asked a fan of the singer on his Facebook fan page.

"Ba’t iniba mo ‘yung [last notes] ng anthem (Why did you change the last notes of the anthem)?" asked another. "Parang malalagutan na ng hininga (You sounded like you were running out of breath)," still another said.

Some, however, praised Pineda for a job well done.

"Good job Arnel! Your patriotic rendition of ["Lupang Hinirang"] was awesome. You made me so proud to be Pinay," a fan said. "I love you Arnel Pineda. Beautiful anthem, beautiful voice," another said.

The institute has criticized a number of Filipino singers who had sung the Philippine national anthem in recent fights of Pacquiao for supposedly creating their own interpretation of the song.

Crooner Martin Nievera’s rendition of "Lupang Hinirang" in Pacquiao’s fight against British Ricky Hatton in May 2009 caused an uproar for its deviation from the prescribed musical arrangement.

Aside from Nievera, pop girl group "La Diva" also received a failing grade from the National Historical Institute for its version of the anthem during Pacquiao’s match with Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto in November 2009.

"I’m sure you guys will be proud," Pineda told GMA News before his fight with Clottey.

Other singers

The NHI earlier noted that if properly sung with a two-fourths beat and 100 metronomes, the national anthem should last 53 seconds. Pineda’s version was 89 seconds long.

Among the singers reprimanded by the NHI for deviating from the song’s original form were Charice Pempengco, Jennifer Bautista and Christian Bautista. The latter is remembered for leaving out several lines of the anthem during a boxing match of Gerry Peñalosa in Muntinlupa in 2007.

All three singers have apologized, claiming they had not intended to change some notes.

Singers like Sarah Geronimo, Lani Misalucha and Kyla, whose versions of the anthem at different Pacquiao matches had lasted for over a minute, have also been criticized by the NHI for turning the national anthem into a ballad. — with Norman P. Aquino/KBK, GMANews.TV

I actually expected this to happen. When will Filipino artists learn? We just CAN'T sing the national anthem in whichever way we would want to sing it! There is a law that prescribes how we should sing it. Don't turn it into a ballad! "Lupang Hinirang" is not "Star Spangled Banner", for God's sake!

STM World Premiere: Lady GaGa featuring Beyoncé - Telephone

Hot off the shelves, STM brings you the world premier of Lady GaGa's newest video for "Telephone," her second single off her muti-platinum EP, "The Fame Monster". The video, directed by the genius Jonas Åkerlund (Paparazzi, Celebration) also features Beyoncé.

FYI: Lady GaGa and Darkchild wrote "Telephone" for Britney Spears' "Circus" album but did not make the cut. GaGa then decided to include it in her EP, "The Fame Monster" and got Beyoncé as guest artist.

STM Spotlight: Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber (that surname pronounced as BEE-bər). This 15-year-old boy from Canada is currently taking the US (and the world) by storm. Thanks to millions of YouTube fans and an army of adolescent devotees. Sure, there’s also a number of people who dislike the boy. Some would even comment about his looks. But admit it or not, Bieber’s the name to beat (at least in today’s teen pop arena). To the words of his mentor, Usher, “He had all the nuance of a classic artist,” “He had swagger. And most important, he had talent.”

Not really a hardcore fan of this boy but I must admit, I’m starting to appreciate his kind of music. I can’t help but remember the time when I was hooked on Aaron Carter during his teens. I actually think Bieber and Carter have the same makings/characteristics of a successful pop star. The only difference is that Bieber’s music is more on the Pop-RnB genre while Carter’s music is more on the Pop-Rap category. But both have the looks, the fans and most importantly, the talent.

OK, back to Mr. Bieber. If you’re into Twitter, I guess you also noticed that this guy is almost always a trending topic. That alone is proof that this teen heartthrob has lots of fans (all over the world). Check his official YouTube account and you’ll be amazed that his debut video “One Time” already has 47,936,685 views (as of this writing).

Since his US debut, Bieber has already released two (2) official singles off his debut EP, “My World”: “One Time” and “One Less Lonely Girl”, which peaked at numbers 20 and 16, respectively on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Two digital singles off the same EP were also released, “Love Me” (which is my favorite!) and “Favorite Girl”, which peaked at numbers 27 and 26 in the US, respectively.

Bieber’s getting ready to release the follow-up to his platinum-selling EP, “My World” (975,000 units sold to date in the US). On March 23, 2010, his fans will finally be able to listen to JB’s new materials via “My World 2.0”. His first single off “2.0”, the song “Baby” which features rapper Ludacris, has already peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Mr. Bieber his highest peak to date. The second single off “2.0” was released on March 2nd. The song “Never Let You Go” was written/produced by power producers Johnta Austin and Bryan-Michael Cox.

This is STRONGER THAN MUSIC

OK, after lots of convincing, I finally gave in and put up my own blog. Blame my friend slash greatest “fan”, Charlene Antoinette Mamaril Javier a.k.a Hybrid Cha (or Karmic). Haha! Well, the idea came from our usual conversations about her blog and our common interest in music, which is my first love, by the way. Everytime we would meet, Karmic would always convince me to put up my own blog. She would always tell me that I’m an “authority” when it comes to music and that I should have a “place” where I can put all my thoughts and knowledge about music. I was hesitant at first, to be completely honest. Thing is, I actually think blogging isn’t my thing. Plus, the fact that I fail big time in maintaining my personal accounts / websites. Even my e-mails, I fail to check sometimes. But I like the idea of having my own blog. She didn’t actually know but I was considering it. So one day, I started making my blog. I thought so hard about this one that even on my way to work, I would think of what to have on my blog to make it unique.

So, enough of the long introductions.

Ladies and Gents, Today, on my 26th birthday, I officially launch the product of my LOVE for MUSIC. Sit back, chillax and enjoy reading my music blog. This is… STRONGER THAN MUSIC.
